State loan is requested for downtown business front

The Ironton City Council will discuss a quit claim deed, improving a façade and subleasing cell tower space at tonight’s meeting.

The quit claim deed is for vacated portions of Third Street and Lawrence Street that the city owns but should have gone to Sherman Towers back during 1977 property transfer but were accidentally omitted from the deed when the property was transferred from the city.

The quit claim deed will fix that omission since the city has no use for the property. The council will also consider asking the mayor to submit an application for $21,235 from the Ohio Department of Development to improve the façade of the downtown building on the corner of Vernon and Third streets.

The council will also consider a request from the Municipal Court of Judge O. Clark Collins for money to purchase a new Ford F-350 truck and yard equipment, like weed eaters and leaf blowers. The money would come from Special Projects fund and Finance Director John Elam has already told the council’s finance committee that it would not affect the city’s general fund.

Also on the agenda is whether to allow SBA Communications to sublease space on a cell tower to T-Mobile. The motion has been tabled for the finance committee discussions.

The Ironton City Council will meet at 6 p.m. tonight. The public utilities commission will meet at 5 p.m., a brief organizational meeting of the Strategic Planning Committee at 5:25 p.m. and the finance committee meeting at 5:30 p.m.

The meetings are on the third floor of the Ironton City Center.
