PEDRO — Run, baby, run.

The Rock Hill Redmen kept things on the ground for most of the game as they racked up 412 rushing yards en route to a 48-6 romp over the Northwest Mohawks on Friday.

The win also gave Mark Lutz his first career victory as a head coach.

Zak Adkins — who ran for more than 200 yards last week — carried just six times for 194 yards and three touchdowns including a 98-yard gallop.

Fullback Cameron Barnette had 71 yards on 10 attempts with a touchdown and J.D. Hackworth filled in for the injured Logan Hankins with 43 yards on four carries and a touchdown.

Quarterback Brayden Friends was 2-of-4 passing for 47 yards including a touchdown strike to Jaret Bacorn. He also ran four times for 25 yards.

The defense held Northwest to 86 net yards rushing with 53 coming on the final play of the game against the second team. The Mohawks were 6-of-8 passing but managed just 30 yards.

Northwest (0-2) was also limited to just six first downs.

Rock Hill (1-1) went 49 yards on seven plays to start the game as Barnette scooted 15 yards into the end zone. Brady Floyd kicked the conversion for a 7-0 lead.

Northwest drove to the Rock Hill 34 but Corey Shope came up with an interception to half the threat.

With the ball at the 31, Adkins go free on a 69-yard scoring run on first down and it was 14-0.

Northwest was held on its next possession and had a bad snap on the punt and the Redmen took over at the Mohawks’ 25. Two plays later Adkins ran 17 yards for a touchdown and a 21-0 lead with 9:57 left in the half.

Rock Hill got the ball back late in the half and went 57 yards in eight plays. Friend his Adkins with a key 13-yard pass for a first down and then teamed up with Bacorn on a 34-yard scoring strike and it was 28-0 with 40 seconds left in the half.

Northwest elected to go for a first down at its own 39 to begin the second half and the Redmen held.

It took four plays for the Redmen to score with Hackworth running three times including the final 2 yards and it was 34-0.

Northwest got off a 49-yard punt to the Rock Hill 2-yard line on its next possession.

Barnette was stopped for no gain on first down but Adkins bolted 98 yards up the middle virtually untouched for the touchdown and it was 41-0 with 2:51 left in the third quarter.

Rock Hill’s second unit got the final touchdown on a 1-yard run by Tyler Cochran with 48 seconds to play.

Northwest ran four plays and got to the 47. On the final play of the game, Noah Mills scrambled to his right and went 53 yards down the sidelines for the Mohawks only score.
