Company offers low cost screenings in visit to region

One of the keys to a healthy population is preventive medicine, and that’s why a team from Columbus was at First Baptist Church in Ironton on Tuesday.

Four staff from Lifeline Screenings, an Austin, Texas-based company, conducted low cost health screenings in the church’s gymnasium.

Joelle Reizes, the communications director for the company, who is based at their operating headquarters in Cleveland, said the aim is to make health care accessible.

“Instead of a building, where everybody comes to us, we go to them,” she said.

She said that 60 teams from the company travel to bring the screenings to communities and that they often partner with churches like First Baptist.

She said venues are selected based on free parking and wheelchair accessibility.

“Our goal is to offer community-bases privative screenings,” Reizes said, noting the team looks especially for signs of heart disease and cancer.

She said, in addition to First Baptist, the company has worked in Lawrence County before.

“We’re in and around the area all of the time,” she said.
