PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth Clay Lady Panthers not only scored, but they played defense, too.
That was bad news for the cold-shooting Symmes Valley Lady Vikings.
The Lady Panthers hit nine 3-point goals and held the Lady Vikings to single-digit scoring in two quarters as they posted a 69-41 Southern Ohio Conference win on Thursday.
Symmes Valley (3-3, 2-3) shot a dismal 16-of-60 from the field for 27 percent including just 1-of-14 from behind the arc.
Jensyn Shepherd had a game-high 24 points and three blocked shots to lead the Lady Vikings. Kaitlyn Crabtree got nine points and 13 rebounds. Rachael Hayes added five assists and two steals while Taylor Sells and Hailee Litlejohn had six rebounds each and Payton Hunter grabbed five.
Cameron DeLotell scored 22 points including six 3-pointers to lead Clay (4-2, 4-1). Regan Osborn added 13 points.
The Lady Panthers hit nine 3-pointers as a team.
DeLotell scored eight points including two 3-poitners and Sydney Osborn had five points with a triple as Clay took a 22-13 first quarter lead. Shepherd scored eight for the Lady Vikings.
DeLotell and Sophia Balestra combined for nine points in the second quarter as Clay pushed its lead to 35-19 at the half.
Shepherd scored seven points and Crabtree had four in the third quarter as Symmes Valley got 17 points, but DeLotell hit two more 3-pointers and Sydney Osborn added one to make it 53-36.
Regan Osborn had six points in the fourth quarter and the Lady Vikings managed just five as a team.
Symmes Valley hosts Green on Monday while Clay visits Portsmouth Notre Dame on Saturday.
