WESTWOOD, Ky. — The temperatures are expected to go from cold to hot this week. They were just the opposite for the St. Joseph Flyers on Friday.
The Flyers started the game shooting well and had a seven-point lead at the half. But St. Joseph couldn’t buy a basket in the second half in a 52-46 loss to the Fairview Eagles.
The Flyers (3-2) managed just 14 points in the second half while the Eagles scored 20 points in the third quarter.
Zach Roach hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored 11 points to lead a balanced Flyers’ offense. Isaac Whaley also made two 3-pointers and scored 10 points while Chase Walters also scored 10 points.
Leading scorer Joey McDavid battled four trouble as did Walters as both were saddled with four fouls. Whaley fouled out.
Noah King socred 15 points and Garrett Greene 14 to lead the Eagles (3-4).
Whaley hit both his triples and scored eight points in the first quarter while Roach had a pair of trifectas and the Flyers led 20-9.
McDavid had all five of his points in the second quarter and Clay Willis scored four points, but Green scored six points and Preston Ledford had five points as Fairview cut the deficit to 32-25 at the break.
King scored 11 points in the third quarter as Fairview outscored the Flyers 20-6 and took a 45-38 lead.
Walters scored five points in the fourth quarter to try and rally the Flyers, but the Eagles were 5-of-10 at the foul line as they hung on for the win.
The Flyers hosts Rock Hill on Tuesday.
