Lady Panthers rally past Lady Pointers

CHESAPEAKE — Shia Ervin had a big game and it paid big dividends for the Chesapeake Lady Panthers.
Ervin scored 10 of her career-high 16 points in the second half as the Lady Panthers rallied to beat the South Point Lady Pointers 38-31 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Wednesday.
Chesapeake (10-11, 7-6) had a balanced offense as Karli Davis scored seven points, Brooke Webb six and Natalee Hall five.
Emilee White and Maddy Khounlavong led South Point with eight points each and Leah Lawson scored seven.
South Point (10-10, 7-6) jumped out to a 13-4 first quarter as Whitt scored five points. Whitt, Maddy Khounlavong and Madison Kearns all hit 3-pointers in the quarter.
Ervin had all four of Chesapeake’s points.
Davis hit a 3-pointer and scored five points as five different players scored in the second quarter and Chesapeake cut the deficit to 19-16 at the half.
Ervin scored six points and Hall four points in the third quarter as the Lady Panthers rallied to take a 26-24 lead.
Lawson accounted for all the South Point scoring.
In the fourth quarter, Ervin scored four points, Webb was 4-of-4 and Maddie Ward 2-of-2 at the foul line while Davis added a basket and the Lady Panthers outscored South Point 12-7.
Kate Mundy had four of South Point’s seven points.
On Thursday, Chesapeake visits Gallipolis and South Point hosts Coal Grove.
