HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — True to the term “student-athlete,” Marshall junior guard Jon Elmore has been named to Conference USA’s All-Academic Team, the league announced Friday.
“I’m proud of Jon,” head coach Dan D’Antoni said. “When we recruit a player, we want them to be a star in the classroom, in the community, in the locker room and on the court and Jon does all of those four things well.”
The honor is the third time Elmore was named to the all-academic team, the second Marshall player in program history to accomplish the feat. Austin Loop was also named on the team three times.
With a 3.5 GPA and earning his degree in communications, Elmore is averaging 22.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game, which is the first time a Division I college basketball player has averaged those numbers in 28 years. Elmore is a three-time C-USA Player of the Week this season, including the most recent winner. The junior also leads the nation in triple-doubles with two.
The Marshall men’s basketball team returns to action on Saturday, when it travels to Murfreesboro, Tenn., to take on No. 24 Middle Tennessee at 7 p.m.
