Two Ironton Middle School students were arrested on Wednesday after allegedly making threats against other students and teachers.

Ironton Police Detective Joe Ross said they got a call from the principal.

“He had found out there were threats on some students and some teachers, not anything specific,” he said. “Some kids were talking on a Snapchat forum, there were some threats made about harming students and teachers at the school.”

Ross said that after investigating two eight grade boys were arrested and charged with terroristic threats.

Ross said that threats were made on Snapchat around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

“The threats were actually made on their phones while they were at school,” he said, adding they didn’t think it would go past the Snapchat story since they weren’t posting on the Internet. “We don’t think there will be any more threats. We interviewed the kids and they were remorseful for what they had done.”

He said the boys were just “talking big” on Snapchat and trying to impress their friends.

“We take all threats seriously,” Ross said.

He added the boys did not have weapons or any plans.
