CHESAPEAKE — Coach Justin Davis likes to see the quality index of his batters.
The Chesapeake coach said his players did a good job at the plate as they got 11 hits en route to a 17-10 non-league win over the Fairland Dragons on Thursday.
Jamie Mills went 2-3 with two doubles and Josh Hanson, Bretton Martin and Trent Durst all went 2-3 to pace the Panthers’ offense.
“Josh Hanson had been our most consistent hitter so far. We had 27 out of 39 quality at-bats,” said Panthers’ coach Josh Davis.
Chesapeake (1-1) used three pitchers who allow 13 hits with starter Tyler Eddy getting the win.
Fairland used four pitchers who combined to walk 11 batters.
The Dragons did hit the ball well as Jace Vonville went 2-3, Tayton Hunt 2-2, and Dairus Stapleton and Reilly Sowards both 2-4.
Chesapeake took a 1-0 lead in the first and it was 5-0 after two innings.
Fairland got four runs in the top of the third before the Panthers got a run in the bottom of the inning to lead 6-4.
The Dragons made it 6-5 in the top of the four but the Panthers scored four in the bottom of the fourth and it was 10-5.
Fairland rallied for three runs in the top of the fifth only to have the Panthers blow the game open with seven runs in the bottom of the inning to lead 17-8.
Martin walked and two outs later Evan Burcham doubled, Hansen and Eddy singled for runs and Bryce Depriest had three-run single.
Mills doubled in a run and Martin the final run of the uprising.
Chesapeake visits Ironton on Friday while Fairland goes to Rock Hill.
