Alan Unrue

Feb. 7, 1950 — April 4, 2018

Alan Hartford Unrue, 68, of Ironton, passed away at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital on Wednesday April 4, 2018, after a short illness.
Alan was born in Ironton, on Feb. 7, 1950, to Charlotte L. and John Junior Ball.  He was raised by his grandparents, Roy and Esta Unrue.  Alan, known by most as Hartford, married the love of his life, Bernice Jo Holbrook, on Dec. 20, 1969.  They were married for 48 years.
To this union was born four children; Adam (Becky) Unrue, Matthew (Mary) Unrue, and April (Jeremy) Justice, of Ironton, and Elizabeth (Travis) Blair, of Catlettsburg, Kentucky.  Alan had two brothers George (Sheila) Ball, of Alma, Georgia, and Roy Ball, of Flatwoods, Kentucky.
Alan was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters; Dianna Lattimer, Patricia Ball, Tamara Marie Morris and Amellia A. Abrams; and a brother, John Ellis Ball.
Alan was a 1968 graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School.  He was drafted and entered into the military on Sept. 25, 1969 where he served during the Vietnam War.  He was honorably discharged from the military on April 28, 1971.  Alan worked at Castle’s Showcase in Ashland, Kentucky for seven years.  He then moved to People’s Security Insurance as an L.U.T.C.F life underwriter where he retired in 1998.
He was converted on March 4, 1975.  Alan was a faithful member, deacon, and clerk of Old Oak Springs United Baptist Church.  After God and his church, Alan loved being with his wife, children, and eight grandchildren; Joey, Rachel, and Leah Unrue, Molly and Megan Justice, and David, Ella, and Libby Blair.  Alan recently enjoyed building his farm and working with bees.  Alan will be greatly missed by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
His greatest desire was to see the United Baptist Church to grow and prosper.  He was a member of Proctorville VFW Post #6878 and DAV HB Doc Riley Chapter 51.
Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Old Oak Springs United Baptist Church, 845 39th St., Ashland, Kentucky, by Elders Clayton Oliver, Lewis Baier, and Bobby Mollett.   Burial will follow in Holbrook Family Cemetery, Ironton.  Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. Saturday at Old Oak Springs Baptist Church, with church service beginning at 7 p.m. and visitation one hour before the service on Sunday.  Proctorville VFW Post #6878 will conduct military graveside rites.

Doris Freeman

Doris E. Freeman, 87, of South Point, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, April 5, 2018, at St. Mary’s Medical Center.
Doris was born March 7, 1931 in South Point, a daughter of the late Clifford and Eunice McKee Arthur.  In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, John C. Arthur and Larry D. Arthur.
Doris was a graduate of South Point High School, Class of 1949, and a longtime member of Solida Missionary Baptist Church, South Point.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Bill L. Freeman; two sons, Gregory (Patty) Freeman and John (Pam) Freeman; three grandchildren, Valerie K. Freeman, Sarah (Josh) Strurgill, Micah (Emma) Freeman; and three great grandchildren, Kathryn Strugill, Ella Sturgill and John Thomas Freeman.
Funeral services will be noon Tuesday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with Pastors John Freeman and Aaron Childers officiating.
Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.  Friends may visit one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.slackandwallace.com.

Nona Maynard

Nona “Jean” Maynard, 72, of Huntington, West Virginia died  Wednesday, April 4, 2018, at Cabell Huntington Hospital. She is survived by her husband, Garland Maynard.
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Jim Parsons at 2 p.m. on Monday at Schneider-Hall Funeral Home in Chesapeake. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Randall Adkins

Randall Allen Adkins, 53, of Huntington, West Virginia died Thursday April 5, 2018, at his residence. There will be no services. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, assisted the family with arrangements.

Jason Fetty

Darryl Smith

Darryl Gene Smith, 52, of Catlettsburg, Kentucky, died Thursday April 5, 2018, at Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Kentucky.  There will be no services.  Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, is in charge of arrangements.
