CHESAPEAKE — The Chesapeake Lady Panthers made everything count.
The Lady Panthers got all five of their hits in one inning when they scored all their runs as they held off the Rock Hill Redwomen 5-4 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.
“Both pitchers threw excellent games. We didn’t get a lot of hits, but we got them all at the same time,” said Lady Panthers’ coach Aaron Rice.
“That’s a big win. The league is really balanced. Anybody can get anybody.”
Rock Hill (6-7, 2-4) took a 1-0 lead in the first on a home run by Grace Stevens.
Chesapeake (7-3, 6-1) came back to take the lead by getting all its runs and hits in the third inning.
Chloe Handley led off with a walk, Katy Spears reached on a two-out error and Brooke Webb doubled in a run.
Ryleigh Swann doubled to drive in both runners and Lyric Bair singled home Swann. Jordan Storms and Erika Bowman both singled to drive in the final run.
Rock Hill rallied in the seventh only to fall just short.
With one out, Taylor Hall was safe on an error, Rileigh Morris was hit by a pitch and Stevens reached on an error for a run.
Maddie Harper and Kylee Howard had RBI singles to make it 5-4.
But Webb struck out the next batter and got a groundout to shortstop to end the game.
Webb got the win as she gave up six hits, struck out nine and walked one.
Howard took the loss as she struck out three and walked two. Howard went 2-4 while Stevens was 2-4 with the home run.
