Lady Panthers smack 20 hits in win over Lady Dragons

CHESAPEAKE — Forget the disc jockey, the Chesapeake Lady Panthers were spinning the hits.
The Lady Panthers had 20 hits as they beat the Fairland Lady Dragons 15-9 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.
Chesapeake (10-6, 8-3) had six doubles among their 20 hits.
“Both teams hit the ball well,” said Chesapeake coach Aaron Rice. “We hit the ball well and put the ball in play. We hit well up and down the lineup.”
Brooke Webb was 4-5 with a double, Ryleigh Swann 3-5 and three doubles, Lyric Bair 3-5, Ashley Tackett 3-5 and a double, Jordan Storms 2-5 and a double, and Chloe Handley and Rachel Pratt both 2-3.
Fairland took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first.
Roberts reached on an error, Morgan Fridley walked and Emily Bowen singled and the runners scored on an error. Libby Judge hit a liner to that was out of the reach of a diving outfielder and went to the fence for an inside-the-park home run.
Chesapeake got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Tackett singled, went to second on a ground out and came home when Swann doubled.
The Lady Panthers took a 5-4 lead in the third.
Webb singled and Swann doubled for a run. Bair singled in Swann, Storms reached on an error, and Handley and Pratt both had RBI singles.
The lead went to 6-4 in fourth when Webb singled, stole second and scored on Bair’s base hit.
The Lady Dragons rallied to go up 7-6 in the top of the fifth.
Montana Runnels hit a home run to start the rally. Erin Rowe singled, Fridley reached on an error and Emily Bowen had a two-run double.
But Chesapeake stormed back with six runs in the bottom of the inning.
Handley was hit by a pitch, Pratt and Tackett had bunt singles to load the bases and Katy Spears singled in a run.
Webb singled home two runs, Bair hit into a fielder’s choice for a run and Storms doubled in two more runs.
The Lady Panthers answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Tackett, Webb and Swann all doubled for two runs and Bair had an RBI single.
Fairland added two runs in the seventh on a walk to Mckenzie Roberts, Fridley’s base hit and Bowen’s two-run double.
Bowen was 3-4 as Fairland had seven hits.
