FAYETTE TOWNSHIP — Special Needs Youth has announced two events for children in the coming weeks.

The group will host a survival event on Saturday, beginning at 9 a.m. on Township Road 138, Mike Finley, who is organizing for the group, said.

Children will be taught how to build a campfire and construct shelter, among other skills. A caravan will meet at 8:30 a.m. at Tractor Supply in South Point and depart for the site.

Finley said though the event is geared toward special needs children, it is not limited to anyone and is open to the public.

“All are welcome and there’s no age limit,” he said. “We’ll have a great time.”

Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Finley said the first 35 children to arrive will also receive a free survival tool kit.

On June 2, the group will host its annual fishing event.

The caravan will meet at 7:30 a.m. at Tractor Supply in South Point and depart for the site.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided for this event as well.

In addition to the fishing, Finley said attendees will also be taught how to cook and fillet the fish.

There is no charge for either event.
