To earn the award, a student must attend a public school within the ESC’s service region and demonstrate outstanding academic achievement, indicated by high grades, test scores and school activities and awards.

Runnels, of Scottown, serves on student council at the school and plays softball for the Lady Dragons.

She is active in 4-H, where she has received numerous awards at the Lawrence County Fair. She was also a runner-up for fair queen.

She and her family were invited to attend a luncheon in Columbus for recipients of the award.
