WHEELERSBURG — The hits were even, but not the score.
The Chesapeake Panthers and Wheelersburg Pirates had five hits each, but the Pirates made better use of their hits to win 10-2 on Saturday in the Division III sectional finals.
“We didn’t badly. We played pretty good defense. We played hard and didn’t give up. They just hit the ball,” said Panthers’ coach Justin Davis.
The Pirates parlayed three walks, a hit batsman and a two-run homer by Cole Dyer in the fourth inning to generate their offense.
Dyer finished 2-3.
Evan Burcham was 2-3 for the Panthers. Josh Hansen was 1-3 with a double and Trent Dearth and Hayden Henson were 1-3.
Chesapeake got a run in the fourth when Burcham and Hansen singled.
The second run scored in sixth on a walk to Kelton Jones and an RBI single by Burcham.
