Lola Morrison-Harris

Lola Evelyn Morrison-Harris, 65, of Huntington, West Virginia, passed away on Monday, May 14, 2018, at her residence.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmie Morrison II and and Lola Penix Morrison; her husband, Tom Harris; and three sisters, Edna Roberts, Barbara Sites and Lilas Morrison.
Lola is survived by her son, Mark (Angie) LaFon, of Chesapeake; her companion, Bruce Campbell France; three brothers, Jim Morrison III, Tim Morrison and Lew (Phyllis) Morrison; two sisters, Rosemary (Doug) Zornes and Gay (Don) Keeney; two granddaughters, Samantha and Avery LaFon; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Rome Cemetery, Proctorville, by pastor Brad Adkins. Visitation will be 12:45-1:45 p.m. Friday at Schneider-Hall Funeral Home, Chesapeake. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.schneiderhallfuneralhome.com.

 

Hazel Yates

Jan. 5, 1930 — May 1, 2018

Hazel Lewis Yates, 88, of Okeechobee, Florida, passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2018, in Okeechobee. The former Lawrence County and Marion County resident was born Jan. 5, 1930. She was the daughter of the late John and Annabelle Rowe Lewis, and was also preceded in death by her husband, Forrest R. Yates. She was also of the Baptist faith.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by six sisters, Margaret (Hobart) Kimble, Gertrude (Jesse) Matney, Juanita (Benny) Fraley, Ruby (Willis) Jordan and Myrtle (John) Getteys; and three brothers, Edward (Maxine) Lewis, Miles (Jackie) Lewis and Fred (Fay) Lewis.
She is survived by two sons, Walter Richard Yates, of Okeechobee, Florida, and Forrest (Trish) Yates, of Marion; one daughter, Dianna Yates Little, of Marion; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Larry Comer officiating. Burial will follow at Sugar Creek Cemetery and visitation will be 1 p.m. until the time of the service Saturday at the funeral home.

 

Herbert Rose Jr.

July 22, 1946 — March 15, 2018

Herbert H. Rose Jr. (Hub), 71, of Deering, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2018, at Community Hospice Center, Ashland, Kentucky.
He was born July 22, 1946, in Lawrence County, the son of the late Herbert H. Rose Sr. and L. Avanelle Griffith Rose. Herb was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ironton. He graduated from Ironton High School in 1946, and had attended Ohio University Southern.
He was an employee of Armco and AK Steel, from where he retired in 1996. Herb loved music and dance from an early age. He loved to tap dance. He taught himself many instruments and was a member of many groups and organizations, including but not limited to, The Singing Kernels, Kelley’s Bridge, The Swing Daddy’s, Ohio University Southern Activity Band, Magic Touch, Old Friends, City Heat, Dick Hawkins Band and had played many local weddings with his food friend, Paul Houston.
He was also a past secretary of the Musicians Union Local #691. He was always a great entertainer and had many stories he loved to tell, some tall and some true.
He was a member of the Deering Grange #2664, Lawrence County Deputy of the Ohio State Grange and a member of the Coal Grove Lions Club.
Herb is survived by his wife, Mary M. Smith Rose; his children, two sons, (Ret.) Lt. Col. Herbert H. Rose III and his wife, Sheryl, of Castle Rock, Colorado, and Frederick Shelton Rose, of Dublin, and one daughter, Laura M. Rose, of Ironton.
He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Colton Rose, OakLeigh Rose, and Sophia Rose, all of Castle Rock, Colorado, Artie Rose and Abby Rose, of Dublin, and Justin Brooks, of Ironton. He also leaves behind a wealth of beloved cousins and friends near and far.
He elected to have a Celebration of Life Memorial from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church of Ironton, located at the corner of Fifth and Railroad streets. In lieu of flowers, you are invited to make a donation to the Ohio University Southern Activity Band or the First Presbyterian Church of Ironton’s music program.

Wanda Bowman

Dec. 1, 1922 — May 15, 2018

Wanda Jean Bowman, 95, of Ironton, passed away peacefully, Tuesday, May 15, 2018, at her residence. Mrs. Bowman was born Dec. 1, 1922, in Lawrence County, a daughter to the late Arnold and Cora (Earles) Boyd. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James W. Bowman, who passed away in 2007.
Mrs. Bowman was a graduate of Ironton High School, and was a retired secretary for the Lawrence County Commissioners Agency, after 30-plus years of service. She was a member of Community Missionary Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Booher, Eloise Martin and Juanita Carrico; and a brother, Earl Boyd.
She is survived by daughter, Glenna (Jerry) Kouns, of Coal Grove; two granddaughters, Dana Justice, of Patriot, and Cathy Hampton, of Grayson, Kentucky; and great-granddaughter, Kelsey Hampton, of Grayson, Kentucky.
