Leading up to Major League Baseball’s non-waiver trade deadline, Cincinnati welcomed three new players to the organization Monday night in a trade with the Braves. RHP Lucas Sims, RHP Matt Wisler and OF Preston Tucker were acquired from Atlanta in exchange for OF Adam Duvall.
Tucker, 28, was immediately added to the Major League roster and started yesterday’s game against the Tigers. The left-handed batter went 1-for-4 with an RBI single in his Reds debut and is batting .256 overall in 2018.
With Duvall gone and Jesse Winker out for the season due to shoulder surgery, Tucker should see plenty of time to prove himself in the outfield mix.
Sims, 24, was viewed as the “centerpiece of the deal,” as Reds President of Baseball Operations Dick Williams explained to reporters.
The former first-round pick has performed well at every stop in the minor leagues, this year boasting a 2.84 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 73 innings pitched at Triple-A. As a talented arm that projects as a big-league starter, it’s likely Reds fans will see Sims on the Major League team before the season ends.
Wisler, 25, has split time in 2018 between the Braves and Triple-A, appearing in seven games for the big-league club.
The right-hander made his Reds organization debut on Wednesday with Triple-A Louisville, allowing just one run on five hits over five innings of work.
