Gallipolis outlast Dragons, 53-35

GALLIPOLIS — The Gallipolis Blue Devils pitted their running game against the Fairland Dragons’ passing game.
The running game won.
The Blue Devils ran 65 times for 357 yards as they outlasted the Fairland Dragons 53-35 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.
Gallipolis (4-1, 3-0) was led by Jacob Campbell who ran 21 times for 143 yards and four touchdowns along with quarterback Justin McClelland who carried 20 times for 110 yards and completed 11-of-14 passes for 135 yards and a touchdown.
Lane “Boo” Pullins had 95 yards on 19 attempts and had a touchdown. Cade Roberts caught five passes for 54 yards and a score.
Fairland (3-3, 1-2) was led again by quarterback Joel Lambiotte who was 18-of-27 passing for 299 yards and three touchdowns.
Brennan West caught five passes for 152 yards and a touchdown while Michael Stitt ran four times for 83 yards and a TD. He also caught two passes for 23 yards and a TD.
Reilly Sowards had three receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown.
Stitt ran 71 yards for a touchdown to put Fairland up 7-0. Alec Bruce kicked the extra point.
Gallipolis then scored 22 unanswered points as Campbell had scoring runs of 3, 27 and one yards.
He and Pullins each ran for conversions.
Lambiotte hit West on a 39-yard TD pass to get within 22-14, but Campbell’s 6-yard run and McClelland’s pass to Roberts on the conversion made it 30-14.
Lambiotte and Stitt teamed up on a 20-yard scoring pass and it was 30-21, but the Blue Devils scored with 25 seconds left in the half as Campbell ran 5 yards for the score and McClelland ran for the conversion to make it 38-21 at the half.
McClelland hit Roberts with a 14-yard scoring pass and Campbell’s conversion run put the lead at 46-21.
Sowards caught an 11-yard scoring pass with 11:10 to play and it was 46-28, but Pullins 4-yard TD run and Andrew Toler’s conversion kick had the lead at 53-28 with 8:15 to go.
Lambiotte capped the scoring with a 9-yard touchdown run with 5:28 to play. Lambiotte also ran for the extra points.
Next Friday, Fairland hosts South Point and Gallipolis travels to Coal Grove in OVC games.
