WILLOW WOOD — The Symmes Valley Vikings turned over a new leaf as the turned to the Leiths.
Quarterback Jack Leith threw a pair of touchdown passes to brother Luke Leith as the Vikings rolled past the Manchester Greyhounds 42-6 on Friday.
Jack Leith was 2-of-2 passing for 82 yards with both tosses going to Luke. Jack Leith also ran six times for 65 yards as the Vikings racked up 349 total yards.
“It was a good win and good for our confidence,” said Vikings’ coach Rusty Webb. “We’ll enjoy this and then go back to work Monday and get ready for two tough games.
“We’re pleased with the effort on both sides of the ball and our special teams did very well. The kickoff team kept them pinned inside the 25 all night.”
Symmes Valley (4-4) used a 30-yard touchdown pass from brother-to-brother on the first series of the game and Gavin Yates kicked the first of six conversions.
The Vikings went 44 yards in just three plays capped by Josh Ferguson’s 14-yard scoring run and it was 14-0.
Symmes Valley scored three touchdowns in the second quarter.
Nick Strow ran 10 yards for a score to make it 21-0.
After penalties left the Vikings with a second-and-35, the Leiths clicked on a 52-yard scoring pass and it was 28-0.
Jack Leith then blocked a punt and Derek Crum recovered the ball in the end zone for a touchdown and it was 35-0 before the half.
The Vikings’ final touchdown was a 52-yard, 3-play drive that ended on a 4-yard run by Ethan Patterson.
Manchester (2-6) avoided the shutout when Avery Reed scored on a 6-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Next Friday, Symmes Valley travel to Sciotoville East.
