Michael Whitehead

July 24, 1946 — Oct. 19, 2018

Michael Bea Whitehead, 72, passed away from pancreatic cancer on Friday, Oct. 19, 2018, at home surrounded by family. The Ironton native was born July 24, 1946, to Anna Crabtree Whitehead and Homer Whitehead.
Michael was a 1964 graduate of Ironton High School and went on to play football for Capital University, graduating in 1969. He obtained his Master’s Degree in education from Xavier University. Most people will remember him as an Ironton Junior High and High School principal, where he was a champion for teachers and students alike. His was a lifetime of service. He coordinated the Adult Basic Education program, was a past Rotary president and was dedicated to his church, Community of Christ. Michael served as pastor and came out of retirement to oversee the building of their fellowship hall, which is used for many community activities.
Michael was an avid outdoorsman. He loved being surrounded by God’s nature.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Anna and Homer; and brother, David Whitehead.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sharon Anne Standard Whitehead; daughters, Dr. Nichelle (Robert) Whitehead-Collins; Dr. Kristin Whitehead and Andrea (Blake) Hixon; grandsons, Maxwell Stephan, Miles Stephan, Sascha Posch, Elijah Posch, Avery Hixon and Beck Hixon. He is also survived by two sisters and one brother, Carolyn (Bob) Waddle, Mary (Bobby) Williams and John (Sina) Whitehead; his niece and nephew, Christine (Seth) Sammons and Marcus (Ashley) Williams; and great-nephews and niece, Zayne Williams, Demir Curtis, Erza Williams and Isley Williams.
Michael desired for his friends and family to gather informally to share in fellowship and food. A celebration of his life will be noon-3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at Community of Christ (Fellowship Hall), 308 N. Ellison St., Ironton.

Ruth Bush

Ruth Ellen Bush, 69, passed on to eternal paradise on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018, at her Tampa home, surrounded by her family. She was born March 4, 1949, in Ironton to the late Lawrence William and Jennie Ethel Ferrell Kline.
Ruth, a 1967 graduate of Rock Hill High School, attended Ohio State University and earned a Radiology Technical license (CT/MRI) for Miami Baptist Hospital. Her real life passion was personal training, holding ACE and AFAA certifications. She lived the belief that one’s body should be a temple for the Holy Spirit and gave the same encouragement to her “gym rats” at Truly Fit.
Ruth’s special love for creatures in need included several rescues of abuse, while never allowing any animal to be turned away hungry. Her yard was a shaded sanctuary of floral colors, squirrels and birds.
Survivors include her husband of 4 years, Michael Zoltan; sister, Nancy Kline Webb, of Ironton; brother-in-law, Eddie McKee, of Coal Grove; brother-in-law, Matthew and Adrienne Bush, of Madeira Beach, Florida; sister-in-law, Kimberly and Edward Alonso, of Orlando, Florida; and nieces and nephews.
Interment of remains will be placed in the family plot at the City Cemetery, Parker, Florida. Memorial donations to St. Francis Society Animal Rescue or the American Humane Society of Tampa Bay, Florida.

Betty Dillow

July 18, 1938 — Oct. 18, 2018

Elizabeth Josiephean “Betty” Dillow, 80, of Ironton, passed away Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018, at her residence surrounded by her family and friends. The Ironton native was born July 18, 1938, a daughter of the late Howard Eugene and Josiephean Wellman Boggs. She is survived by her husband, Carl Dillow.
Mrs. Dillow attended Ironton schools and was a former waitress. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Ironton. She loved to rescue and care for animals. She also loved to spend time with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ricky Boggs and Robert Boggs; and a grandson, Aaron Christian.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Lawrence “Joe” E. Webb, of Huntington, West Virginia, and Robert “Jeff” (Brenda) Webb, of Catlettsburg, Kentucky; a daughter, Carrie Jane (Jack) Christian, of Ironton; 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Sam (Debbie) Boggs and Steve (Barb) Boggs; and special friends, Patty Wells and Charlotte Wheeler.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Tony Dillow officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, and visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Mary “Ruth” Clark Horn Cogan

May 4, 1929 — Oct. 11, 2018

Mary “Ruth” Clark Horn Cogan, of Ironton, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2018, at Harbor HealthCare. She was born May 4, 1929, in Coal Grove, a daughter of the late Bill and Dessie Clark.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Paula Brown Workman; her son, Kenny Horn; brothers, Bill and Jim Clark; and two grandsons, Brett Young and Richie Brown.
She is survived by daughters, Kathie (Ernie) Bryant, Carletta (Clyde) Pennington and Donna (Wayne) Wilson; four grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The daughters will honor the request of their mother that there will be no funeral service.
