Harley VanMeter

May 1, 1922 — Oct. 25, 2018

Harley VanMeter, 96, of Pedro, passed away Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. The Lawrence County native was born May 1, 1922, the son of the late Ted and Adeline Blankenship VanMeter. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen V. Pennington VanMeter, who passed away in June of 1994.
Harley was a graduate of Aid High School and a U.S. WWII veteran. He was a former coremaker for Dayton Malleable, retiring in 1980 after 38 years of service. He was a member of Oakland Chapel Church in Kitts Hill and was an Aid Township Trustee for 32 years. Harley was also a member of the Republican Central Committeemen for more than 50 years.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Dottie VanMeter Fuggett; four sisters, Emogene Brumfield, Gladys Caldwell, Dorothy Mootz and Ermalee Shue; and three brothers, Melvin VanMeter, Burton VanMeter and Eugene VanMeter.
He is survived by a daughter, Terri (Bill) Brown, of Clairmont County; two granddaughters, Lisa (Matt) Massie, of Pedro, and Hollie (Marty) Wilson, of Ironton; two grandsons, Aaron (Laura) Brown and Gabe (Holly) Brown, both of Clairmont County; great-grandchildren, Lucas Massie, of Pedro, Dylan Carpenter, of Ironton, Harley Carpenter, of Ironton, and Marlie Wilson, of Ironton; and a neighbor and best friend, who was loved like a daughter, Vicki Ellis. Her loving, generous and caring heart allowed him to stay in his home to the end.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with pastor Lennie Campbell officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Chapel Cemetery, Kitts Hill. Robert Webb

June 24, 1934 — Oct. 23, 2018

Robert W. Webb, 84, of Southfield, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2018. The Lawrence County native was born June 24, 1934, a son of the late John and Ethel Kelley Webb. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Webb.
Mr. Webb was a 1953 graduate of Coal Grove High School and attended the University of Rio Grande. He was also a United States Air Force veteran. Robert was a former journeyman bricklayer for Bricklayers and Allied Craftsman Local 2 Detroit.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.
Mr. Webb is survived by two sons, John (Jody) Webb and Wayne (Tracy) Webb; two daughters, Cynthia Seale and Kelly (Chester) Schmitzer; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
There will be a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Wilgus-Fairview Cemetery, with military honors provided by Symmes Valley VFW Post 523.
