Local soldier returns to U.S.

Army Reserve Maj. James Hollingsworth has returned to the U.S. after being deployed overseas at a forward operating base in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Operation Enduring Freedom is the official name given to anti-terrorism military operations involving U.S. troops and allied coalition partners.

Active duty and reserve component members from all branches of the U.S. armed forces have been deployed to support the war against global terrorism outside the borders of the United States. U.S. troops serve in South, Southwest and Central Asia, the Arabian peninsula, the Horn of Africa, islands in the Pacific, and Europe.

Hollingsworth, a field artillery officer, is a member of the 351st Civil Affairs Command, Mountain View, Calif. He has served in the military for 32 years.

The major graduated in 1974 from Symmes Valley High School, Willow Wood, and received a bachelor’s degree in 1987 from Cameron University, Lawton, Okla. He earned a master’s degree in 1996 from the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City.

Ironton City Council to meet Monday

IRONTON — The Ironton City Council will have its regular meeting Monday Dec. 21 at 6 p.m.

Members of the council voted to switch the date of the meeting when it was realized that the regular schedule would have the council meeting on Dec. 24.

Rep. Evans to have public meetings

COLUMBUS — State Representative Clyde Evans (R- Rio Grande) will be holding open door public meetings for constituents in southern Ohio.

The meetings will provide an opportunity for the general public to discuss their views and opinions with Rep. Evans on state government issues.

The following meetings will be held at the following times on Monday, Jan. 4:

9 a.m. at the at the Community Building in McArthur, in Vinton County

11 a.m. at the Markay Theatre in Jackson, in Jackson County

1:30 p.m. at the Chesapeake Library, in Lawrence County

4 p.m. at the Rio Grande Village Hall, in Gallia County

IHS Jazz Combo Concert Dec. 21

IRONTON — The Ironton High School Jazz Combo will be performing holiday music at the Ironton Branch of the Library on Dec. 21 at 2 p.m.

Under the leadership of Will Smith, the IHS group will be the second band to play at the library in December.

The band will be playing in the downstairs reading section for a half hour. Chairs will be set up for anyone who would like to listen.
