John Joseph

Sept. 14, 1936 — Nov. 24, 2018

John C. Joseph, 82, of Jackson, passed away Saturday, Nov. 24, 2018, at Adena Medical Center, Chillicothe. He was born Sept. 14, 1936, in Pedro to the late Robert and Faye (Crabtree) Joseph.
Jackson has lost a man who stood tall in the community with the passing of John Joseph. He was a devoted husband, father and community supporter. In 1978, John was beginning to consider retirement with the Goodyear Tire facility when Randy and himself decided to open the doors and begin the business adventure which had evolved to R&J Gas LLC. John had a love for fixing any type of small engine, and his wisdom, craftsmanship and knowledge will be greatly missed. John had a passion for the youth of Jackson and many a young athlete benefitted from his mentoring over the many years.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joan (Bamer) Joseph; children, Bryan (Winda) Joseph, of Chillicothe, Randy (Andrea) Joseph, of Jackson, and Jonda (Brad) Dunn, also of Jackson. Also surviving are his six grandchildren, Tammy Swisher, Nikki Willis, Mitchell Joseph, Joey Dixon, Kristen Shoemaker and Carly Joseph; brothers, Lawrence Joseph and James (Tuti) Joseph; sisters, Lillian (Johnny) Robinson, Linda Hall and Kathy Bentley; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at the Lewis and Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Calling hours will also be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday with a funeral following at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery. John Poe

March 25, 1940 — Nov. 23, 2018

John Poe, 78, of Franklin Furnace, passed away Friday, Nov. 23, 2018, in Southern Ohio Medical Center Hospice.
Mr. Poe was born March 25, 1940, in Russell, Kentucky, to the late Charles and Elizabeth Poe.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Poe; his father and mother-in-law, Crash and Jeri Carver; and two great-nephews, Jason Poe and Joseph Rutkowski.
John was of the Methodist faith. He was a proud U.S. Army and Air Force veteran. He traveled throughout Europe playing baseball, and was a member of the Southern Ohio Softball Hall of Fame. He was a sports enthusiast, enjoying anything that kept a score. John was a member of the American Legion and a retired employee of AK Steel.
He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Sandi Poe; three sons, Zach (Rosanne) Poe, Alex (Kelly) Poe and Zane Poe; four grandchildren, Jaxson, Lethan, Mason and Miles Poe; one brother, James (Bobbe) Poe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today at Carman Funeral Home, Flatwoods, Kentucky. Burial will be in Haverhill Cemetery. Visitation was Monday evening at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Southern Ohio Medical Center Hospice, 2201 25th St., Portsmouth, OH 45662.

 

Gretchen Medinger

Nov. 28, 1946 — Nov. 23, 2018

Gretchen Medinger, 61, of Ironton, died on Friday, Nov. 23, 2018. She was born Nov. 28, 1956, the daughter of the late Saul Eugene and Hazel Ann Ramey Hall. She worked as a nurse’s aide.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Medinger; four children, Julie (Shawn) McClaskey, Paula Jo (Kyle) Carpenter, Tony (Morgan) Medinger and Brandon (Katie) Medinger; grandchildren, Drew McClaskey, Ethan McClaskey, Heath Carpenter, Garrett Carpenter, Tucker Carpenter, Carson Medinger, Averi Medinger, Brigston Medinger and Lexi Midinger; and one brother, Pete Hall, of Kingsman.
She was preceded in death by one brother, Rob Hall.
Funeral services will be noon Thursday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home, Ironton, with a one hour visitation prior with Fr. David Huffman and Kenney Ruggles officiating. Visitation will also be 6-9 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Pine Grove.

 

Patricia Vaughn

James Foreman

James P. (Rudmann) Foreman, of Ironton, was born in Steubenville, the son of the late John William Foreman and Emma Elizabeth Brill Foreman, on Aug. 2, 1952. He came to Ironton from St. John’s Vila Orphanage via Catholic social service in 1960, and placed in Ironton along with his sister, Peggy, and raised in the Rudmann family of Frank and Jean Rudmann.
He was known in his youth as James P. Rudmann.
He was preceded in death by his biological father and mother; and sisters, Majorie, Barbara and Emma Jean.
He is survived by a son, Colt Joseph Foreman, of Pennsylvania; grandson, Joseph Weston River Foreman, of Florida; sisters, Agnes Moio, of Lancaster, and Peggy and Dan Hartwig, of Ironton; brothers, Bill (Gail) Foreman, of New York; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by the Rudmann family members, who cared for him until his passing, Greg and Nancy Rudmann and Katy and Don Barron.
Visitation will be 11 a.m.-noon today at St. Lawrence O’Toole Church, Ironton. Mass of Christian burial will be at noon with Fr. David Huffman officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Parish Life Center, P.O. Box 499, Ironton, OH 45638.
