LLOYD, Ky. — It was target practice time.
The South Point Lady Pointers shot it up pretty well as they opened the season with a 69-45 rout of the Greenup County Lady Musketeers on Thursday.
Emilee Whitt made four 3-pointers and scored 19 points while Emilee Carey added a pair of 3-pointers and scored 16 points to lead the Lady Pointers.
“I thought we shot pretty well and moved the ball pretty well. It was pretty good a first game. But like all first games, we’ve got a lot to work on,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Dave Adams.
“Whitt and Carey had a lot of points, but we had pretty good balance. We had several players with seven, eight or nine points.”
Both Ashley Perkey and Maddie Khounlavong scored nine points for South Point.
Grace Jackson scored a game-high 20 points for Greenup (0-1).
Whitt scored six points on a pair of 3-pointers and Carey hit a 3-pointer and scored five points as South Point took a 14-8 lead in the first quarter.
Whitt scored eight points including another triple in the second quarter as the lead went to 34-23 at the half.
Jackson got seven points for Greenup.
Khounlavong made a 3-pointer and Sarah Roach got six of her seven points in the third quarter as the lead ballooned to 55-33.
Whitt got five more points in the fourth quarter as Adams began to substitute freely.
South Point visits Chesapeake on Monday.
