LATHAM — When the Symmes Valley Lady Vikings came out of the locker room to start the second half, they forgot something.
Their offense.
The Lady Vikings scored just four points in the third quarter and fell behind by 22 points in a 57-42 Southern Conference loss to the Western Lady Indians on Thursday.
The Lady Vikings (7-4, 3-4) shot just 15-of-52 from the field for 29 percent and 2-of-10 from behind the arc.
Another key was making only 6-of-8 foul shots while Western was 15-of-26.
Rachael Hayes scored 15 points to pace the Symmes Valley offense. Jenna Malone had nine points, eight rebounds, three assists and five blocked shots. Payton Hunter had six rebounds and two assists.
Sylvia Evans scored 26 points to lead all scorers while Haley Whitt added 10 points for Western (3-7, 4-3).
Western led 16-12 after the first quarter as Evans and Brooklyn Tackett combined for 11 pionts. Hayes and Emily Johnson had four each for the Lady Vikings.
Evans hit a 3-pointers and scored 12 points in the second quarter while Chloe Beekman also had a 3-pointer and scored five points to put Western up 35-23 at the half.
Hayes hit a trifecta and had five points while Hailee Littlejohn got four points for the Lady Vikings.
Then came the third quarter and Western outscored the Lady Vikings 12-4 and it was 47-27.
The Lady Vikings didn’t quit. They outscored Western 15-10 as Malone scored seven points including a 3-pointer.
Symmes Valley host Chesapeake on Monday.
