Redwomen notch first OVC victory

PEDRO — It was a team effort in every sense.
The Rock Hill Redwomen had seven different players score as they beat the Portsmouth Lady Trojans 49-37 on Thursday for their first Ohio Valley Conference win of the season.
Makayla Scott had 20 points to lead the Redwomen (4-14, 1-11) while Savannah Cade had 11 points and Savannah McGraw added eight.
Hannah Hughes and Jasmine Eley combined for all but four of the points for Portsmouth (6-12, 3-10). Hughes scored 17 points and Eley was right behind with 16.
Rock Hill took a 13-9 first quarter lead as Scott and McGraw scored five points each. Eley hit a 3-pointer and had five points for Portsmouth.
Cade knocked down a 3-pointer as four different players scored and it was 21-16 at the half. Hughes drained a trey and scored five of the Lady Trojans’ seven points in the quarter.
Cade hit a 3-pointer and went 2-for-2 at the line while McGraw also hit a triple and the lead was 32-25.
Eley hit a 3-pointer and scored seven points while Hughes drained a trifecta and scored five points in the fourth quarter, but the Redwomen got 13 points from Scott including 5-of-9 at the foul line.
Rock Hill converted 7-of-13 free throws in the quarter to seal the win. The Redwomen were 14-of-23 at the foul line for the game while Portsmouth was 2-of-5.
On Monday, Rock Hill goes to South Point and Portsmouth visits Gallipolis.
