Dr. Patrio Tismo

June 27, 1934 — Feb. 1 2019

Dr. Patrio D. Tismo, 84, of Ironton, passed away peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by family, on Friday, Feb. 1, 2019, after a long illness. Patrio D. Tismo was born June 27, 1934, in Baybay, Leyte, Philippines. He is the son of Julian S. Tismo and Dolores D. Tismo.
Dr. Tismo came to the United States in 1959 following his graduation from Far Eastern University Medical School in Manila, Philippines. He served a one-year internship at All Soul’s Hospital in Morristown, New Jersey. After completing his internship, Dr. Tismo served his General Practice residency at Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morristown, New Jersey, and completed his General Surgery residency at Newark City Hospital, Newark, New Jersey. His General Surgery preceptorship was completed at Wilmington General Hospital, Wilmington, Delaware.
Following his training, Dr. Tismo was employed by the government of St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands as a full-time hospital staff member. He returned to the United States and worked as a self-employed physician at Charleston Memorial Hospital, Charleston, West Virginia.
Dr. Tismo, upon receiving an invitation from a friend who was also a physician, visited the area and decided to settle in Ironton. He served as Chief of Surgery at Lawrence County General Hospital while maintaining a private Family Practice in Ironton.
He was a Family Practice Physician at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, Ashland, Kentucky, and at the Ironton-Lawrence County Community Action Organization Medical Center, Ironton.
Dr. Tismo won numerous awards during his career. In 2009, he received recognition from the American Medical Association for practicing medicine for over 50-plus years. He was also honored by his colleagues by receiving the OACHC Health Center Hero Award. Furthermore, Dr. Tismo was voted as “The Best Physician” in the Tri-State area. Patrio D. Tismo, M.D., practiced medicine just shy of his 83rd birthday.
Dr. Tismo was a self-taught pianist and an accomplished portraitist. He loved the outdoors and his true passion was fishing with friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Sampaguita D. Tismo.
He is survived by two sons, John Patrick Tismo, of Boston, Massachusetts and Sydney, Australia, and Pierre Tismo (Gloria Griffiths), of Centerville; two daughters, Janine Tismo (Rick Wischer), of Cincinnati, and Jasmine White (Mark White), of Ironton; seven grandchildren, Gaby, Trevor and Graceann Tismo, Naomi and Nash Wischer, and Ethan and Emerson White; a sister, Erlinda R. Castro (Mel B. Castro), of Leesburg, Virginia; four nieces, Melinda T. Castro, Lotalinda Castro-Anderson (Oliver Anderson), Crystalinda C. Arcilla (Edwin M. Arcilla) and Devinalinda C. Gorres (Christopher Gorres); and four nephews, John-Marc T. Castro, Meljumar T. Castro, Jumarcelon T. Castro (Ashley Kipps – fiancée) and Mel T. Castro Jr.
Visitation with the family will be 5-8 p.m. today at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, Ironton. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday by Fr. David H. Huffman at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ironton, with burial immediately thereafter at Calvary Cemetery.

Colleen Coleman

Jan. 19, 1947 — Feb. 2, 2019

Colleen Coleman, 72, of Ironton, passed away Saturday, Feb. 2, 2019, at Cabell-Huntington Hospital, Huntington, West Virginia. She was born Jan. 19, 1947, in Ironton to the late Grover Hall and Rosalie Hankins Sites.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Mary “Cookie” Colley; and three brothers, Gary “Mic” Sites, Larry Lee Sites and Thomas “Tommy” Sites.
She was a 50-year member of Central Christian Church, Ironton.
She is survived by her husband, Tom Coleman; three daughters, Brenda (Duane) Hofstetter, of Denton, North Carolina, Kelli Coleman, of Ironton, and Kayla (Matthew) Delong, of Ironton; two sons, Pat (Penny) Coleman, of Ironton, and Kerry (Christine) Coleman, of Ironton; one sister, Dee Stephenson, of Ironton; grandchildren, Stephen (Kenny) Hofstetter, Alan (Ashley) Hofstetter and Nicholas (Mamie) Hofstetter; great-grandchildren, Addison Linthicum and Alexis and Mia Hofstetter; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Central Christian Church, Ironton, with pastor Willie Purdee officiating. Hall Funeral Home and Crematory, Proctorville, is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ehallfuneralhome.com.
Dana Helmondollar
Dana F. Helmondollar, 70, of Chesapeake, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2019, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Helmondollar.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. today at Schneider-Hall Funeral Home, Chesapeake. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville. Flora Adkins

Flora Flo Adkins, 66, of Crown City, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2019, at University of Kentucky Hospice Care Center, Lexington, Kentucky. She is survived by her husband, Floyd Fulks.

Barbara Jones

Barbara Jean Jones, 63, of Ironton, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2019, at Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Kentucky. She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Jones.
Graveside services will be noon Friday in Woodland Cemetery with Bishop Sven Berg officiating. There will be no public visitation.
