PROCTORVILLE — Teams must have patience if they play the Fairland Dragons.
Fairland does.
The Dragons used their patient, crisp-passing offense to limit Gallipolis to just 13 points over three quarter as they beat the Blue Devils 37-31 on Tuesday and inched closer to winning the Ohio Valley Conference title.
Fairland (15-4, 10-1) has Chesapeake, Portsmouth and Rock Hill remaining and needs at least two wins to clinch the title outright.
Jacob Polcyn scored 14 points and had 10 rebounds to pace the Dragons. Clayton Thomas added nine points and four assists.
Gallipolis (8-7, 6-5) was led by Cory Call with 10 points and four rebounds. Justin McClelland added eight points.
Polcyn scored four points and Aiden Porter hit a 3-pointer as Fairland led 7-0 after the first quarter.
Thomas drained a pair of trifectas, Matt Mondlak scored four points and Gavin Hunt added a trey as the lead went to 20-9 at the half.
Call had four points and McClelland a 3-pointer for Gallipolis.
Each team scored just four points in the third quarter and it was 24-13.
Blaine Carter scored all seven of his points in the fourth quarter as Gallipolis mounted a comeback, but Polcyn scored six points and the Dragons converted 7-of-8 free throws to clinch the win.
On Friday, Fairland hosts Chesapeake and Gallipolis entertains Portsmouth.
