James Falter

Jan. 5, 1933 — Dec. 20, 2018

James W. Falter, 85, of Beavercreek, died Dec. 20, 2018. He was born Jan. 5, 1933, to Charles W. and Addie McKee Falter in Ironton.
He graduated Ironton High School in 1951, joined the Navy and served during the Korean War in Naval Aviation. He earned a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 1961 and a Master of Science degree from the University of Dayton in 1967. During that year, he also graduated from Air War College in Montgomery, Alabama.
Jim spent his career in research and development at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. Over 35 years, he received numerous awards for distinguished civilian service, was active in local science groups, chairman of the Dayton section of I.E.E.E. and president of Sigma Xi.
After retiring in 1993, he turned to finance and investing and was appointed to the Tri-State Better Investing Council, teaching and advising investment clubs in the area.
He served as a VITA volunteer over 10 years, helping low income and elderly with taxes. He also helped his church in building a Habitat for Humanity house.
A long-time member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, he served as a youth worker, a vestryman, on the rector search committee, on the church school curriculum committee, taught Sunday School, was head usher for many years and was the treasurer and advisor of Episcobucks, St. Paul’s investment club.
Jim is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sue (Mayer); three sons, David (Margaret), of Chicago, Illinois, Nicholas, of Dayton, and Thomas (Karen), of Cincinnati; six grandchildren, Henry, Samuel, Nicholas, Quinn, Zachary and Paige; his sister, Joyce Rapp, of Ironton and Worthington; and a niece, Lisa (Mark) Brower, of Westerville.

Lenora Brown

Aug. 30, 1927 — Feb. 28, 2019

Lenora Brown, 91, of Ironton, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, at Sanctuary of the Ohio Valley. She was born Aug. 30, 1927, to the late Earl and Sarah Tisdale Hart. She was the widow of David “Poppa Bear” Brown.
She was a member of Community Baptist Church and was an Eastern Star for 55 years.
In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by two sons, Stephen Michael Brown and David Brown; and was the last of 13 siblings.
She s survived by her children, Danny (Debbie) Brown, Tim Brown (Louann Moore), Beckey (Andy) Bowen and Katy (Dave) Ford; grandchildren, Angie Hamilton, Bonnie Sutton, Michael Brown, Mandi Pirsenbarger, Hope Bowen, Austin Bowen, Jason Bowen and Elijah Ford; great-grandchildren, Stephen Brown, Daniel Summers, Madison Summers, Richie Sutton, Dani Pitsenbarger, Sara Bowen, Calvin Bowen, Lillian Bowen and Ashlyn Brown; great-great-grandchildren, Claire Brown and Shawn Daniel Summers II; and special daughters of the heart, LuElla Crabtree and Jill Porter.
Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Sunday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home, Ironton. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Phil Ruark officiating. Burial will be in Ashland Cemetery, Ashland, Kentucky.

 

Christine Meadows

Christine Meadows, 88, of South Point, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019, at St. Mary’s Medical Center, Huntington, West Virginia. She is survived by her husband, Ralph Meadows. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville. Burial will follow in Rome Cemetery, Proctorville. Shannon Dean-Aldridge, 42, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2019.
