The investigation into a stabbing death on Wednesday is continuing and the case against the alleged attacker may go to a special grand jury.

The victim, Harold Taylor, 52, was found lying in the street bleeding after allegedly getting into a fight with his stepson, James Wilson, on the corner of Ninth and Spruce streets in Ironton on Wednesday morning. Taylor is Wilson’s stepfather.

Taylor was transported to King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky, but died of his injuries. His body has been sent to Frankfort, Kentucky for an autopsy, since he was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Investigators have met with Wilson about what happened.

Lawrence County Prosecutor Brigham Anderson said they are in the early stages of the investigation.

“We are reviewing all witness statements and the evidence,” he said. “It is our plan to present to, most likely, a special grand jury in the coming weeks.”

Anderson said that Wilson has not been arrested.

“He did meet with investigators and gave a statement to them,” he said. “We are still investigating. That is about all we can say at this time.”

A family member said Taylor “had problems for years” with his stepson and they had arguments before, including a fight last week when Wilson allegedly “stomped” Taylor in the ribs.
