Kathleen Blankenship

Nov. 20, 1927 – Sept. 4, 2019

Mary Kathleen McGuire Blankenship, 91, of Ironton, passed away in her home on Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019.

She was born Nov. 20, 1927 to the late John and Nora Runyon McGuire and was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Cecil Blankenship.

She was a lifelong member of Leatherwood Missionary Baptist Church, a graduate of Kitts Hill High School and recipient of the DAR award. Kathleen was a homemaker and enjoyed working in her flowers and gardening.

In addition to her parents and husband, Kathleen was preceded in death by a brother, Warren (Marie) McGuire; three sisters, Oma (Emmitt) Alfrey, Beulah (Luther) Humphreys, and Dorothy (Johnny) Gallaher; a brother-in-law, Larry Bryant; a son-in-law, Homer Lee; and a great granddaughter, Aloura Griffith.

She is survived by five children, Mike (Kathy) Blankenship, Larry (Donna) Blankenship, Kathy Lee, Fred (Nancy) Blankenship, and Cindy (Steve) Lambert; ten grand children, Jennifer (James) Griffith, Robert Blankenship, Keri Blankenship, Jami (Jeremy) Henry, David Lee, Staff Sgt. John Blankenship, Julie (Brian) Skaggs, Mary (Joe) Ferguson, Nathan (Holly) Lambert, and Martha (Matt) Wilson; sister, Edith Bryant; brother-in-law: James Dilley; sister-in-law, Maxine Blankenship; and twenty-one great grandchildren.

The family would like to express a special thank you to caregivers, Ruth Murnahan, Carliegh Pinkerman and the community hospice staff.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, 518 S. Sixth St., Ironton, with Pastor Mike Huff officiating. Entombment will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, South point. Visitation will be 3 –5 p.m., Sunday and 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Mary Louise (Triplett) Rogers

Sept. 8, 1924-Sept. 4, 2019

Mary Louise (Triplett) Rogers, age 94, of Wheelersburg, formerly of Pedro, passed away peacefully on Sept. 4, 2019, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth.

Mary Lou was born on Sept. 8, 1924 to Dora and William Triplett in Huntington, West Virginia. She was the eighth of 11 children and grew up on Vernon Farm in Pedro. She attended both Decatur and Blackfork Elementary Schools and later was a cheerleader at Decatur High School.

She married Ralph Vernett Rogers on Oct. 27, 1940. She attended Rio Grande College where, at the age of 39, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education. While at Rio Grande, the newspaper published several of her essays about her life. She began her teaching career at Blackfork Elementary in the fall of 1961. She completed her teaching career at Rock Hill Local Schools spending most of her 29 years teaching seventh grade English at Rock Hill Middle School.

She loved God, teaching, golfing, traveling, taking care of people and spending time with her family. She was a member of the choir at Hillview Retirement Center and a member of the chair volleyball team. She was a charter member of Decatur Missionary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and loved to sing in the choir.

She is survived by her four children, Ralph and (Maggie) Rogers of Williamsburg, Virginia, Sandra (Rogers) Green of Oak Hill, Dora (Rogers) and David Carmon of Wheelersburg, and Janeen (Rogers) and Barry Spradlin of Wheelersburg. She has 13 grandchildren, E.J. Green, Mary (Green) Massie, Craig Green, Lora Green, Zac Green, Melanie (Carmon) Blake, Meredith (Carmon) Hulse, Michelle (Carmon) Metts, Sarah (Rogers) Williams, J.P. Williamson, Ashley Smith, Cassidy Spradlin, and Michael Spradlin. She also leaves behind 28 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Vernett Rogers; her son-in-law, Elza Green; daughter-in-law Ellen (Garner) Rogers; seven brothers, Harman, Orban (Pete), Ervin, Eugene, Thomas, Merril and Earl Triplett; three sisters, Reba (Triplett) Depriest, Myrtle (Triplett) Smith, and Evelyn (Triplett) Rogers; and her dear friend, Clyde Heazlit.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Phillips Funeral Home in Ironton. Visitation will be from 5 -8 p.m. on Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton. The funeral service will be on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Decatur Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Phillips officiating. Visitation will be one hour preceding the ceremony; burial will follow at Vernon Furnace Cemetery.

Larry Webb

Larry Meldrum Webb, 29, of Huntington, West Virginia, died Aug. 29, 2019 at St. Mary’s Medical Center.

Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday at Hall Funeral Home and Crematory in Proctorville. Visitation will be held 1 – 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
