Michael Jenkins

Aug. 8, 1970–June 24, 2020

 

Michael Shawn Jenkins, 49, of Auburndale, Florida, passed into Heaven unexpectedly Wednesday, June 24, 2020.

 

He is survived by his wife, Julie Jenkins of Auburndale Florida; his children, Sean Dylan Lee Jenkins and Madison Lila Grace Jenkins, both of Ashland, Kentucky; brother, Jeremy Lynn Henry and his wife, Shaina Henry, and his son and daughter, Tanner and Shawnia Henry; brother, Chad Lively, and his wife, Brandi Lively; brother, Larry Henry, of Ironton; sister, Lisa Fradd, and her husband, Brian Fradd of Kitts Hill; brothers, Scott Henry, Danny “Pumpkin” Jenkins and Ricky Jenkins; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his mother, Lila Lee (Watts) Henry, and father, Dwight Franklin Henry.

 

Michael was born Aug. 8, 1970, in Ironton. He graduated from Rock Hill High School and joined the United States Navy, where he was a petty officer 3rd Class and machinist mate. He was also a painter and construction worker.

 

He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and others who knew him.

 

A funeral service is scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with Bro. Chad Pemberton officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery with VFW Post 8850 providing military graveside rites. Visitation will be Thursday 11 a.m. until time of the service at the funeral home. Sharon Ison

July 6, 1945–June 29, 2020

 

Sharon Sue Ison, 74, of South Point, went to be with the Lord Monday, June 29, 2020.

 

She was born July 6, 1945, in Huntington, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Cecil and Evelyn Marcene Arthur Ison.

 

She was also preceded in death by special aunts, Annabel Arthur Pruitt, Joyce Stamper Conley and Donna Arthur Deere; and an uncle, Bill Arthur.

She was retired from Paul G. Blazer High School where she taught English for 27 years. She received her Bachelor’s degree in English and music, as well as her M.A. in English from Marshall University.

 

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Ashland, Kentucky and a member of the Chancel Choir.

 

In addition, she was a member of the Order of Eastern Star #404 of South Point, the National Education Association, as well as KEA, the American Association of University Women in Huntington and the Paramount Arts Guild.

 

Left to cherish her memory are several close-knit family members including cousins, Teresa Stamper Lewis, Lois Eaton Craddock; and an aunt, Marlene Arthur; as well as a host of other family members and friends.

 

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point, with Pastor Jeff Bramel officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10–11 a.m.

Jacob Cochran

Jacob Cochran, 26, of Franklin Furnace, died Friday, June 26, 2020 at St. Mary’s Medical Center Ironton Campus.

 

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Glenda Smith

Glenda Smith, 72, of Ironton, died on Saturday, June 27, 2020, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Kentucky.

Keeping with her wishes, her services will be private.

Janet Lester

Janet Louise Leighty Lester, 77, of South Point, died Monday, June 29, 2020, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, Somerset, Kentucky.

 

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens, South Point. Visitation is 1-2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
