Dick Kitts

Dick Tracy “Doc” Kitts, 74, of Ironton passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The Ironton native was born Nov. 9, 1936, the son of Oscar Burt and Susan Kimble Kitts. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Vickers Kitts.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #198 in Ironton, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Ohio National Guard. He was a retired millwright for the Dayton Malleable Iron Co. and was an avid outdoorsman, bass fisherman, and craftsman. Dick and his wife, Phyllis, loved to travel but chose to live in the Ironton area for their entire lives.

Dick was preceded in death (in addition to his parents and wife) by a sister, Mary Lou “Blondie” Dean; two brothers, Robert Kitts and Burt Kitts; and two infant children, Kem Tracy and Dickie Lee.

He is survived by a daughter, Donnie Kitts of Coal Grove; a son and daughter-in-law, Nathan and Hannah Evans Kitts of Jackson; a sister, Bessie Justice of Middletown; two grandchildren: Jeremiah Ratliff and Jordan Ratliff, both of Ironton.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Phillips Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Lee Cremeans officiating. Burial will follow in Community Cemetery and visitation will be Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. with Masonic Services at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
