Virginia Ford

Virginia Marie Jackson Ford, 96, of Ironton, widow of W. H. Ford, passed on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, Ky., following a brief illness. Virginia was born in Huntington, W.Va., on Jan. 30, 1915, daughter of the late George Frederick and Flossie E. Barton Jackson. She graduated from Huntington High and Harrisonburg Teachers College, now known as James Madison University in 1938. She spent her working career with Sears, retiring in 1961. Ginnie’s passions were her family, her church, golf, and playing bridge. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers, Rev. George F. Jackson and Charles R. Jackson; a son by marriage, Oakie G. Ford; and a grandson, Steven K. Odekirk. Surviving are her children by marriage, Sharon (Richard) Odekirk of South Point, and Roger E (Val) Ford and daughter-in-law Mary Effie Ford of Ironton; grandchildren, Cynthia (Larry) Anderson, Heidi (Joe) Freeman, Courtney Ford, all of Ironton, R. Mark (Cindy) Odekirk of Cumming, Ga., Keelie (Jeff) Brown of Catlettsburg, Ky., Marlie (Jamie) Richardson of Jackson, Tenn.; a sister-in-law Dorothy C. Jackson of Hartford City, Ind.; special nieces, Joy (Bud) Bolton of Anderson, Ind., Pamela (Rick) Weaver of Selma, Ind., Ginnie Sue (Rande) Clevenger of Pendleton, Ind., Judy (Paul) Lesoine of Elizabeth Town, Pa., Jennifer Rowe of Winston-Salem, N.C.; special nephews George F. (Mary) Jackson, III of Ash Flats, Ark., and Rev. Jerel (Eunice) Jackson of Center Harbor, N.H.; six great grandsons; seven great granddaughters; four great nephews; six great nieces; seven great great nephews; four great great nieces; her church family and a host of friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held 12:30 p.m. Saturday at First Presbyterian Church on Fifth and Railroad streets in Ironton. Officiating will be Pastor Jan Williams. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Abiding Memorial Fund of First Presbyterian Church or to the charity of choice. Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville, is in charge of arrangements.
