Redwomen get 3 wins at BC tourney

CANNONSBURG, Ky. — It might have seemed like a long day for the Rock Hill Redwomen, but just how long it was for their opponents.

Rock Hill picked up three wins on Saturday in the Boyd County Lady Lions Tournament as they beat Spring Valley 8-2, Portsmouth Notre Dame 12-2 and host Boyd County 12-1 in six innings.

Rock Hill improved to 12-2 with the three wins.

Morgan Damron and Chelsea Harper each went 7-for-13 on the day with three runs batted in. Courtney Duncan and BreeAnna Depriest were 5-11 with three RBIs while Brooke Hanshaw and Morgan Schug were- 5-13. Hanshaw drove in four runs while Schug racked up seven RBIs.

Sami Nixon got two wins as she pitched complete games against Spring Valley and Notre Dame. In 14 innings, Nixon gave up 13hits, four runs — all earned — along with nine strikeouts and three walks.

Hanshaw picked up the win against Boyd County as she gave up six hits.

The Redwomen wasted little time against Spring Valley with a five-run first inning.

With one out, Harper walked and Duncan and Schug singled for a run. Crabtree had a two-out, two-run single and Nicole Stamper and Haylia Gannon both singled in runs.

Rock Hill added a run in the second on a double by Damron and Harper’s base hit.

Spring Valley got the run back in the third but Rock Hill scored twice in the bottom of the inning.

Depriest tripled with two outs and Damron and Harper followed with RBI doubles.

In the 12-2 win over the Notre Dame Lady Titans, Rock Hill again took a 5-0 lead and coasted to the win.

After a scoreless first, the Redwomen got three in the second on a double by Brooke Eastham, a walk to Gannon and Depriest’s two-run double. Depriest scored on a ground out.

Hanshaw singled in the third and scored on Schug’s double. Dani Crabtree was next with an RBI single.

The lead went to 7-1 in the fifth inning when Crabtree singled and Eastham and Depriest had RBI doubles.

Rock Hill blew the game open with four runs in the sixth.

Duncan was safe on an error, Hanshaw singled and Schug had a two-run double. Crabtree singled in a run and Gannon squeezed home another.

Damron doubled and Harper singled for the final run in the seventh.

In the nightcap, Rock Hill took another 5-0 lead with a five-run second.

Damron doubled in a run, Harper singled for another, Hanshaw doubled in two and another scored on an error.

Hanshaw, Schug and Lindy Simpson all singled in runs in the fourth.

Three runs scored in the sixth on a run-scoring single by Damron and Duncan’s two-run double.
