The Lawrence County 4-H Horse PAS show was held on June 26 at the Ohio University Horse Park in Franklin Furnace. It was the participants’ opportunity to qualify for the State Fair.

The kids had to achieve points by performing with their horses in various disciplines. A youth must qualify in two classes in order to compete in the State Fair Junior Horse Show. They can only compete with one horse at the PAS show, and can only show under two judges.

The 2010 PAS State Qualifiers from Lawrence County, which may compete at the State Fair are: 1. Meranda Hayes in Pole Bending and Barrels 2. Stephen Orengo, in Western Pleasure, Hunter Under Saddle, Western Showmanship and Ground Roping. 3. Morgan Willis in Western Showmanship & English Showmanship. From Scioto County, the following participants qualified for State also: 1. Sarah Newton in Easy Gaited Showmanship, and Easy Gaited Pleasure. 2. Shyann Parker in Low Working Hunter over Fences, Equitation over Fences and Hunter Hack. 3. David Pettit in Low Working Hunter over Fences, Equitation over Fences, and Hunter Hack.

The following participants qualified in 1 event:1. Shae Willis in Western Showman ship, 2. Kayla Hayes in Barrels, 3. Tiffany Corder in Ground Roping. The standards and the point system are set by the State. two state approved Ohio 4-H judges were in charge of determining the points each child received. The PAS was followed up by an Open Speed Show with $1,500 added money, in which many of the 4-H kids participated or worked as helpers.

In addition to all the workers for these shows, the kids, and their parents, thanks also is given to Dr. Mike Dyer, Veterinarian, from the Proctorville Animal Clinic, who donated his time to help with the show.
