MINFORD — Before Thursday’s Division IV district semifinal game, Ali Thompson was ready for a hospital ward.

When the game was done, the Manchester Lady Greyhounds were the ones calling 9-1-1.

Thompson didn’t feel good but she still pitched a two-hitter as the Green Lady Bobcats beat Manchester 3-1.

Thompson struck out 15 and did not walk a batter. Both hits came in the seventh inning.

“Ali played one heck of a game and she was as sick as a dog. She struck out 15 and had four putouts herself, so she accounted for 19 outs herself. That’s pretty impressive,” said Green coach Dale Royce.

With the win Green (16-3) plays the winner of Leesburg Fairfield and Eastern Meigs whose game was suspended after 12 innings with no score. The game will completed at 11 a.m. on Saturday and the winner faces Green at 3 p.m. for the district championship.

Green broke the scoreless tie with two runs in the fourth inning.

Abbey Barrett tripled to start the inning and Thompson reached when her hard ground ball was booted allowing the run to score. Thompson stole second and scored on a hit by Adrianne Blankenship.

The Lady Bobcats added an insurance run in the sixth inning.

Blankenship singled, stole second, moved up when Breanna Johnson grounded out and came home on a passed ball.

Rideout and Henley doubled with one out in the seventh inning to give Manchester its only run. But Thompson got the next batter on a pop fly to second baseman Ashlee Runyon and struck out the following batter to end the game.
