Arraignments, probation violations and guilty pleas were among the issues contended with Wednesday in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court.

John R. Hogan, 23, of 422 N. Second St., Ironton, was arraigned on charges of complicity to breaking and entering, complicity to grand theft and complicity to tampering with evidence.

He pleaded not guilty through his attorney, David Reid Dillon. Judge Charles Cooper set bond at $50,000 cash or $100,000 property and told Hogan to return to court Wednesday for a pretrial conference.

His alleged cohort, Justin O. Jenkins, 20, of Lincoln Avenue, South Point, was arraigned on charges of breaking and entering, grand theft and tampering with evidence.

He pleaded not guilty through his attorney, Philip Heald. Cooper set the same bond for him and ordered him to return to court Wednesday for a pretrial conference.

In another case, Derrick White, 22, of 607 German Hollow Road, Ironton, admitted he violated his probation by not reporting to his probation officer as required.

Assistant Lawrence County Prosecutor Bob Anderson recommended that White be sentenced to 15 days in jail but that he be given credit for 15 days already served, plus 60 days electronically monitored home confinement and an extension of his probation.

“He does seem to be in a solid position; he is gainfully employed and has the support of a female who has gotten him turned around,” Anderson said.

White’s attorney, Marty Stillpass, said in fact his client did report faithfully for two years and but got into a bad situation and was homeless for a while.

Stillpass said White has turned things around.

Judge D. Scott Bowling accepted Anderson’s recommendation.

“Thank you,” White told Bowling. “I won’t do anything bad ever again.”

Also, Daniel Prince, 27, of 78 Private Drive 77, South Point, pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor theft that had been amended from a felony.

Bowling sentenced Prince to 60 days in jail but suspended that sentence and placed him on three years probation. Prince must also pay $785 restitution to his victim.

“It won’t happen again,” Prince told Bowling.

Danny Estep, 58, of 2214 N. Fifth St., Ironton, pleaded guilty to two counts of trafficking in marijuana.

Bowling sentenced him to four years community controlled sanctions and ordered him to successfully complete a rehabilitation program at STAR Community Justice Center.

Jeremy Jenkins, 23, of 406 Pike St., Coal Grove, was arraigned on one count of felonious assault and one count of misdemeanor assault. He pleaded not guilty through his attorney, Carol Jean Hampton. Cooper sent bond at $25,000 cash and $50,000 property and scheduled a pretrial for Wednesday.

Shalena Parsons, 29, of 929 State Route 775, Scottown, was arraigned on one count of grand theft.

She pleaded not guilty through attorney Randall Lambert, who was standing in for Mike Davenport. Cooper set a $50,000 own recognizance (OR) bond.
