Or better yet, the beating goes on.

The Symmes Valley Vikings won their 12th game in a row as they beat the Portsmouth Clay Panthers 11-6 in a rain-shortened game on Friday.

The Vikings are now 13-1 overall and 11-0 in the Southern Ohio Conference.

Symmes Valley had 12 hits including home runs by Cody Bland and Tyler Easthom.

“We hit the ball well. We might not have hit as well as we can, but I think we were rushing the game because we wanted to get it in before the rain hit,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe.

The Vikings went up 1-0 in the first inning when Robbie Powell singled, advance on a ground out and scored as Jeremy Hatfield singled.

Symmes Valley scored four times in the second inning.

Dustin Wilson and Cody Myers singled, J.J. Huff walked, Powell had an RBI single and Bland a two-run single. A throwing error scored the final run.

In the third, Luke Taylor doubled, stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Dustin Wilson.

The Vikings got three more runs in the fourth inning to build a 9-0 lead.

Powell doubled and advanced on a wild pitch. Bland singled, stole second and an error on the play scored Powell. Hatfield walked and Ethan Wilson singed in a run.

After Clay got a run in the bottom of the fourth, Easthom and Bland slugged home runs in the fifth and it was 11-1.

The rain began to fall and made the mound slippery. Easthom — who was working on a two-hitter — gave up five walks, a single and hit a batter as the Panthers scored five times.

Only two of the runs Easthom allowed were earned. He struck out four and walked five.

Powell was 3-4 to lead the Vikings while Bland and Myers were 2-3.

Symmes Valley (13-1, 11-0) hosts Fairland on Tuesday.
