In 1982, after nearly three-quarters of a century, the Harveytown Grade School was closed. The building now houses the Museum of Radio and Technology, Inc.

It is located at 1640 Florence Avenue in the southwest section of Huntington, W.Va.

A visit to the museum is a must.

On Saturday, June 6, from 12-4 p.m. the alumni of the Harveytown Grade School will hold its “12th annual homecoming.”

Anyone who attended or taught at the school at anytime is encouraged to attend.

Please invite as many classmates and teachers as possible. Several who attended during the 1940s and ‘50s have attended, but it seems that those of the 1960s and 1970s have not. Where have they been?

Let’s get busy and invite as many as possible. Suggest that those you invite also invite those that you might has missed.

A walled display of the history of the school and area has been created by Earl Bush, (304) 523-1102.

Please bring any pictures you would share (you may prefer to have copies made). We are still looking for a picture of Irby Junior High. The school was destroyed by fire around 1933-34. The property was purchased by J.R. Bruce who built and operated a store there for many years.

You are urged to bring your favorite dish. Drinks and utensils will be provided.

For additional information concerning the dinner please contact Tamara Hanshaw (304) 522-7815.

For addition information you may contact Carolyn Nelson (304) 523-8694, Edith Frasher (304) 529-9276 or Don Saunders (740) 894-5852.
