It’s a temporary condition.

Darkness put a halt to Wednesday’s Southeastern Ohio Athletic League game between the Ironton Fighting Tigers and Chillicothe Cavaliers with the score tied 7-7 at the end of seven innings.

“We finally hit the ball,” said Ironton coach Tobey Schreck. “I thought Ethan (Preston) came in and did a nice job on the mound. He’s a competitor.”

Chillicothe scored four unearned runs to chase Ironton starter Howie Lucas who left with a sore shoulder.

Preston finished with just one bad inning when the Cavaliers scored three runs — two unearned — in the fifth inning.

Ironton got a run in the bottom of the third inning when Preston reached on an error and scored on Tommy Waginger’s base hit.

The Fighting Tigers tied the game in the fourth inning with three runs.

Josh Pancake and Geoff White walked and Keith Wetzel singled to load the bases. Jonathan Williams then cleared the bases with a double.

After Chillicothe got three runs in the top of the fifth, Ironton answered with three in the bottom of the inning.

Preston walked and Waginger hit into a force play. Pancake and White followed with singles to score a run. Williams singled home his fourth RBI of the game and Wetzel stole home to tie the game.

The game is scheduled to be completed when Ironton visits Chillicothe on Monday, April 20.

Ironton (2-2, 1-1) plays at Jackson on Friday.
