Joan Akers Young, 82, of Ironton died Tuesday Aug. 9, 2011, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. She was born Oct. 16, 1928, in Ironton the daughter of the late James and Esther Whitt Akers. She was a member of Saint Lawrence Catholic Church and retired from C&O Railroad System.

Preceded in death by her husband Richard L. Young Sr.; three sisters, Ruth Crace, Betty Rockwell and Margery Gilton; and four brothers Richard Akers, Paul Akers, Jim Akers, and Robert Akers. Survivors include two sons, Richard L. Young and Greg Young, both of Ironton; one brother, William C. Akers of Boca Raton, Fla.; one sister Virginia Baker of Cumming, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral mass will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church with Father David Huffman officiating, burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Friday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home. Donations are requested in Joan Ann’s name to the Catholic Cemetery Fund, 905 S. Fifth St. Ironton, OH 45638.
