SOUTH PASADENA, Fla. — Larry Smith, 72, of South Pasadena, and formerly of Ironton, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011, at Palms of Pasadena Hospital, South Pasadena. Larry was born Feb. 18, 1939, the son of the late Earl and Fern (Sloan) Smith.

Larry was a 1957 graduate of Dawson-Bryant High School. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force (Airman 2nd Class). He worked 33 years as a steelworker, Castor Operator at AK Steel retiring in 2001. He served the community through many years of service as a Little League coach, St. Joseph’s Athletic Booster and the St. Joseph’s Charity Fair. He was baptized on Aug. 14, 2011.

Larry is survived by his wife of 40 years, Jo Ann Smith; one daughter, Laura Jo Darcy of King George, Va.; two sons, Matthew (Jessica) Smith of Portsmouth and Mark (Mary) Smith of Clearwater, Fla; seven grandchildren, Andrew, Graham, Owen, Grace, Brianna, Peighton and Brady; one sister, Marilyn Stigler of Louisville, Ky.; one brother, Earl Smith of Ironton; one aunt, Ester Smith and several nieces and nephews.

Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday by Father David H. Huffman at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by VFW Post 8850.

Friends may call from 6-9 p.m. with a prayer service at 8:30 p.m. on Friday at Tracy Brammer – Monroe Funeral Home in Ironton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph High School in Ironton. Condolences may be made to the family by visiting www.tracybrammerfh.com.
