IRONTON — Briggs Lawrence County Public Library hosts an evening book discussion.

In July of 2008, Briggs Lawrence County Public Library held its first evening book discussion.

Starting in 2009, the book club will meet on the second Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. in the Ironton Branch library.

The evening book discussions are designed for those who work during the day or have other daytime commitments and cannot attend the daytime book discussion groups that are held at the Library’s branch locations on a monthly basis.

In January 2009, the club read “Light on Snow” by Anita Shreve. One club member said the evening book discussion club was a “nice place to meet people and just to talk”.

“We started with only three members,” said Lori Shafer, host of the book discussion. “But we are gradually increasing. I want to invite anyone who wants to participate to come and join us. The club is quite informal, you don’t have to talk if you don’t want to, and is just a lot of fun.”

On Feb. 12 at 6 p.m., the book club will meet again to discuss “Nathan’s Run” by John Gilstrap.

In “Nathan’s Run,” a 12-year-old boy is wrongly imprisoned and nearly murdered. When he is able to escape, he will have to elude cops, a county prosecutor and the mob. Copies of the book in a variety of formats are available at the Ironton Branch library. To reserve a copy, call (740) 532-1124.
