The Chesapeake Panthers went fast right from the starting line as they jumped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead and cruised past the Oak Hill Oaks 47-7 on Friday to give coach Andy Clark a win in his coaching debut.

“We got off to a fast start and that helped our confidence,” said Clark. “We played pretty well on both sides of the ball.

“We had a bunch of seniors who were in their third opening game. They weren’t nervous. They were more anxious.”

Clark deflected any attention regarding his coaching debut.

“I guess I was so busy I didn’t have time to be nervous. Having a bunch of seniors makes it easy on game night and having good assistant coaches makes it easy,” said Clark.

Brandon Noble and quarterback Austin McMaster combined for 175 rushing yards as the Panthers racked up 302 as a team. Noble ran for 90 yards on 16 carries and McMaster added 85 on seven attempts and two scores.

McMaster also completed 7 of 12 passes for 141 yards and touchdown.

“They gave us certain things and we took advantage of it,” said Clark.

Patrick Hintz got the first score of the season with a 4-yard run at the 7:42 mark. McMaster then ran 6 yards for a score and broke loose on a 38-yard gallop with 30 seconds on the clock to make it 21-0.

McMaster hit Javon Thompson with a 55-yard scoring strike early in the second quarter and it was 28-0.

Nate Jones went 5 yards for a touchdown midway through the quarter to make it 34-0.

Jones got his second touchdown with 4:10 left in the third quarter and it was 40-0.

Oak Hill got its lone score on an 18-yard scoring strike from Drew Haislop to Chase Burdine.

The Panthers capped the scoring on Dylan Nichols’ 5-yard scoring run with 9:48 to play.
