James W. Tipton, 63, formerly of Ironton, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. The son of the late Bill Joe and Swannee Little Tipton, he was a veteran and a carpenter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Debra Devonne Tipton. Surviving are three daughters, Amanda Catlin of Westwood, Ky., and Amber Satterfield and Carrie Tipton, both of Concord, N.C.; three brothers, Bill Tipton and Michael Tipton, both of Ironton, and Terry Tipton of Lexington, Ky.; a sister, Rebecca Tipton of Flatwoods, Ky.; and two grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at O’Keefe-Baker Funeral Home with Michael Triplett officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery. Visitation is 6-9 p.m. today.
