PROCTORVILLE — One at a time. Play them one at a time.

The Fairland Lady Dragons made sure they took care of business as they beat the Coal Grove Lady Hornets 72-37 on Monday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.

“We have a lot of respect for Coal Grove. They came in with seven wins and some players who could score,” said Fairland coach Jon Buchanan.

“We only wanted to worry about tonight’s game. We did a good job of staying focused on this game and not looking ahead.”

Ahead for Fairland is a showdown for first place on Thursday at South Point. Both teams are 4-0 in the OVC.

Terra Stapleton had 16 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocked shots as Fairland remained unbeaten in 11 games.

Chandler Fulks added 9 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals in a solid all-around effort.

Fairland finished with a 47-26 rebound advantage and handed out 16 assists.

“We met all our goals as far as rebounding and taking care of the ball. It was a pretty good effort all-around. Anytime you 16 assists it shows you’re playing team ball,” said Buchanan.

Ashley Adkins scored 17 points to pace Coal Grove (7-3, 2-2).

Katie Fuller scored 5 points in the first quarter to offset 7 points by Adkins and Fairland took a 19-8 lead.

The Lady Dragons were up 35-19 at the half and then Stapleton scored 8 points and Kayla Swiger 6 in the third quarter as the lead grew to 53-29.
