PEDRO — A second man will be in Ironton Municipal Court today facing charges in the brutal stabbing of a couple’s two dogs.

Jonathan D. Jiles, 20, of 27 Private Drive 380, State Route 373, Pedro, was arrested at 8 p.m. Wednesday at his home by Lawrence County Sheriff’s deputies. He lived across the street from Josie and Mike Scythes, whose dogs were stabbed to death on Saturday.

On Tuesday Brian L. Sharp, 20, of 339 Township Road 324, Pedro, was arrested by deputies.

Both men are charged with prohibition concerning companion animals, a first-degree misdemeanor, and criminal trespassing, a fourth-degree misdemeanor.

On Saturday the Scythes came home to find that their dogs had been stabbed multiple times and had their throats slashed.

“(Jiles) admitted his involvement with deputies,” Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless said. “Both individuals claimed to be drunk. Both claimed to me that they did not target the Scythes family. They happened to be trying to pet the dogs and the dog bit Sharp on the hand and they did a stupid thing after that.”

Jiles bonded out this morning before his court appearance.
