COAL GROVE — Evidently the Portsmouth Trojans recover quickly.

After suffering a stunning 73-63 loss to Ironton on Tuesday, the Trojans bounced back on Wednesday with a 65-42 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Coal Grove Hornets.

Ky’re Allison and Kendall Reynolds combined for 54 points for the Trojans (11-6, 7-3). Allison had 29 points and Reynolds 25.

Jeb Jones scored 11 points and Aaron Music 10 for the Hornets (5-11, 2-9).

Allison scored nine points as Portsmouth took a 12-6 first quarter lead. Jones had four points for the Hornets.

Allison had eight more points in the second quarter and Reynolds was 5-of-6 from the line as the Trojans went to 31-16 at the half.

Cole Gannon scored seven of his nine points in the quarter for Coal Grove.

Reynolds and Allison combined for all 12 Portsmouth points in the third quarter and the lead was 43-25. Coal Grove was 7-of-10 from the line in the quarter.

Reynolds had the hot hand with 14 points in the fourth quarter to offset eight points by Music as Portsmouth outscored Coal Grove 21-17.

Portsmouth visits Fairland on Friday and Rock Hill on Saturday. Coal Grove hosts Rock Hill on Friday.
