Judge sends drug trafficker to prison

Cases heard in common pleas court

Several cases were heard in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court this week.

• Jason Adams, 34, of 116 Rowe Street, Coal Grove, was previously sentenced to prison for complicity to aggravated assault. He appealed the case, and Judge Charles Cooper re-sentenced him to post release control.

• Richard Ellis, 45, of 607 W. 12th Street, Huntington, West Virginia, was arraigned on theft charges. Judge Cooper set bond at $25,000 cash or surety and $25,000 OR.

• Kandas Johnson, 32, of 1173 Lot 1, County Road 1, South Point, pleaded guilty to one second-degree and one fourth-degree count of trafficking in drugs. Judge Charles Cooper sentenced her to five years in prison and a one-year driver’s license suspension. A handgun and $2,361.84 on her when she was arrested were forfeited to the Lawrence Drug and Major Crimes Task Force.

• Luke Knotts, 28, of 8252 State Route 93, Pedro, pleaded guilty to one count of failure to comply with a police officer. Judge Richard Walton sentenced him to 12 months in prison, plus court costs.

• Justin Moore, 26, of 703B S. 9th Street, Ironton, denied community controlled sanctions violations. Judge Walton set hearing for Nov. 30.

• Scott Christian, 37, of 662 State Route 650, Ironton, was granted judicial release, effective Nov. 30. He previously pleaded guilty to one fifth-degree count of theft, one third-degree count of tampering with evidence and one first-degree misdemeanor count of misuse of a credit card. A plea agreement allowed his release after one year.
